Luzerne Bartholomew agreement to sell a grizzly bear : Albany [N.Y.?], to Charles C. Norton and B.W. Johnson, 1854 Dec. 19.

Signed manuscript contract of Luzerne Bartholomew to sell a "large California Grizzly Bear, Waggon & Cage painting of said Bear & Cuts of same for the sum of Thirty Hundred Dollars..." to two men. The agreement stipulates monthly payments of 100 dollars plus interest until paid in full. It further states that if the bear should die of disease before 12 months are up the buyers will only pay for each month the bear lives. If the bear lives longer than 12 months from the date of the contract the agreement is to be paid if full. Signed at end by Sarah Bartholomew (witness), Charl. C. Norton, and B.W. Johnson (crossed out). A third signature [Bartholomew's?] is torn off and missing. Also includes typescript transcription.
